What Is This About?
I like to take photographs. And I am also old school. I still shoot film – slides mostly. (Yes, people have fallen asleep during my slide shows. In fact, I did once.) I have multiple camera bodies, all but one which are heavy. I have multiple lenses, way more than I need. I don’t take as many photographs as I would like because it takes too much effort.
My brother said buy a Canon Elph (or something like it). A digital notebook to take anywhere, he said. I went with something similar — a Sony. But there are still settings to adjust. Plus you have to remember to take it with you. Plus it has this nasty habit of falling out of pockets and breaking. I’ve had to have it fixed twice, thankfully while still under warranty.
The last thing I was thinking about when I bought my iPhone was photography: there were too many other cool features. (Yes, I am a bit of a Mac freak, but that is really beside the point.) Fooling around with it after I bought it, I took some photographs. Not great, but much better than I was expecting. So I took some more and then some more and then some more. Many were surprisingly good. It has become the true digital notebook that my brother was talking about. I almost always have it with me, which means I can and do take photographs of things that catch my eye anywhere, or where for some other reason I just want a photographic record of what I am seeing. Love the simplicity: just point and shoot. It tends to work better for close in work, but most photographers would do better if they moved in closer to their subjects.
I still like to take “real” photographs, but they are still a lot of work. Maybe I’ll post some of them some other time. This tumblr is to show some of my favorite iPhone photographs, with some occasional commentary thrown in.
I hope you enjoy them.
